We Are Now The Gods

I see woman

I see hell

I see God

The kind of woman whose aura yields suffering

I see woman

The woman whose resilience outweighs circumstance

Photography by Kitso Kgori

I see woman

Love

History

I see life

Death

Hate

I see pain

Woman

The future

The type of woman who steadies time with a book

Captures struggle in a bottle

And keeps hope frozen in a cup

I see laughter

I see evil

I see Lucifer

And I see the messiah.

The kind of god who puts herself between a bullet and her child

The kind of god that puts herself in the deepest waters,

For love,

Even when she cannot swim

A god that never settles

A god that never compromises the ones she loves.

I see woman

I see tears

Courage.

Multiplied centuries of silence

Murder

Sweat

Celestial Supremacy

Rape

Oppression

Tears

Harassment

Blood

I see woman

I see a divinity . . .

In greyscale.

I see strength

I see scars

I see insecurity

Imperfection And perfection

The type that makes you shift the focus just in case your vision’s blurred

I see woman

I see beauty

The collection of pretty that flows through gold funnels

And empties itself in oceans

A beauty that gets you on your knees and introduces to heaven

A love that is salvation

A beauty that looks you in the eye and insists that you to forgive yourself

Photography by Kitso Kgori

A beauty that deafens

Soothes Awakens

Makes you drop dead

– Gorgeous.

A beauty that drips

Drizzles

Rains

Pours

Floods

Within you

Photography by Kitso Kgori

In you,

I see woman

I see God,

My mother

And the generations of women whose shoes she ran in.

The queens who kings were made and groomed from!

I see patience

Humility

Kindness

UBUNTU

Wrath

Anger you can’t redeem yourself from

But also,

I see mercy

A thousand years of war

Unsung hymns

And unanswered prayers

Photography by Kitso Kgori

In You,

I see woman

I see us

Myself

God

And them.
